THE US OPEN.

this seemed to the be a lucky week for tickets to sporting events.  we were able to catch Melanie Oudin's first match, Andy Roddick, and Kim Clijsters, all in one day.

we went to a few smaller matches and sat courtside.  this was especially entertaining during one of the matches where a young american was playing. we sat right next to the family/coach of the american and during the whole match he kept looking over and telling things to us (okay his coach sitting behind us)-partly to pump himself up and partly to complain about how poorly he was playing.  he had no control over his emotions and was struggling immensely.  so much talent, but his discipline was seriously lacking. (he was definitely no nadal or federer.  i think those players would have been horrified at the string of complaints and whining that was coming out of that young man's mouth and the lack of control he had over his body language).  branden said it was among the worst sportsmanship he had ever seen, and if our kids were like that...i laughed.  little does he know that it actually reminded me of another young tennis player i knew.  this player struggled in having the intensity she needed, aka the "killer" instinct without letting her emotions take over completely.

i think i finally found that intensity two summers ago when i played in ladies league tennis.  too bad i didn't have that maturity when i was in high school.  *sigh* ...
