the friday before the mets game (i have to try and keep some track of time or when i tell stories to our grandkids about our life in new york, i'll get it all mixed up) we went and saw ROCKY on the deck of the intrepid. next to planes and helicopters. with two of our favorite peoples (and one of my very distant cousins!)
now you may think i'm odd, but rocky was actually educational. rocky takes place in the 70's. i never realized what a gritty story it was. the scenes and props/sets/clothing was really powerful. i now can better imagine what new york city must have felt like and looked like thirty years ago. and how frustrating it would be. stuck in a neighborhood trying to scrape by, knowing that there was no way out. having nobody believe in you and rising above that. (ok. that was cheesy.) as ridiculous as some of the movie lines were, it was pretty darn good.

on another note (along the lines of new york as a changing city over the years) we watched a documentary with my bro and CK on sunday night on NYC. it was fascinating to see NYC's growth and development. the character of this city has really changed and altered over the years. each neighborhood has a truly unique character and really reflects the people who live there. and people have fought pretty hard to make NYC what it is today. i'm excited to watch the rest of the series on netflix.
What was the documentary you watched? Maybe I am a geography nerd, but that sounds really cool to me!
