sunday night we made our way to the 9/11 memorial.  the fountains that recess deep into the ground, reflect the void and the loss of every one of those individuals who died that day.  and the rushing water, it's so loud but peaceful.   and the trees and grass are so calming-some of the only greenery down in that area.  it created the feeling of beauty in the midst of loss.  it was so powerful-we were all silent once we entered the square.  here's what the Memorial jury (the ones who chose the design) had to say about it...

"In its powerful, yet simple articulation of the footprints of the Twin Towers, "Reflecting Absence" has made the voids left by the destruction the primary symbols of our loss...While the footprints remain empty, however, the surrounding plaza's design has evolved to include beautiful groves of trees, traditional affirmations of life and rebirth.....The result is a memorial that expresses both the incalculable loss of life and its consoling regeneration." (found here)

It's an incredible memorial.  Visiting it with my family was a beautiful and touching spiritual experience.
