D.C.-what we did

while branden was on paternity leave and henrietta and i were hitting 3 weeks post-birth, we hit the road and made a quick trip to DC and a few surrounding things.  we stayed with my uncle steve and aunt kathy and as always-were blown over by their generosity and kindness.  the heat was unbearable, so we ended up spending quite a bit of time in the air conditioned car.  both kids were champs in the car-something i was actually surprised about since they have so little experience in them.  after hitting pu horrendous traffic on our way down, we hit up mount vernon and then day 2 of our trip we drove around downtown and visiting the national cemetary.  i think my brain is slightly jumbled on the timeline of things.  i blame it on the post-partum fog of hormones and lack of sleep.
this picture was taken from our car.  ha!

taken in the 30 minutes we lasted at the cemetary.  it was hot and miserable and we only ended up being there for 30 minutes or less.  poor hugo had a meltdown.  which resulted in mom and dad being close to a meltdown as well.  killer heat.

i wish i had something patriotic to add here about what a special feeling the place had.  the place did have a special feeling.  but i think we were all so close to tears from the heat that the feeling was lost on us.  we'll have to make a trip back to redeem ourselves.
another photo from the car! (yup.  we were really just happy to drive around)

putting on a happy face for the camera (hugo-not so much.)

picture from the car!  again.
branden and i did discuss how gorgeous DC is.  those buildings really do inspire and create a sense of awe about our country and government.
