An addition to the family....

Two posts in one day, but don't get too excited. So, I bought a car today. It cost 450 pounds and if the UK pound continues to slide that is roughly equivalent to $6.79. Just kidding. Its about $850. You might be thinking, "What can you buy for that much cash?" Well, let me tell you. A lot. Not a lot in terms of size, or engine power, or style. But you get a lot of not taking the bus everywhere for $6 a day. A lot of not walking in the rain for 2 hours like I did this morning to buy our little guy. A lot of not carrying grocery bags for miles to a bus stop. We are living the dream. Amanda said we had to name the car. His name is Skippy. He is a 1993 Peuguot 205 1.6 liter deathwagon. This is not the car that you want to be going 70 MPH next to a lorry (semi) on the motorway. But it is great for ASDA (Walmart) and my hopefully short commute to my hopefully fantastic job. Its hilariously ironic that we sold the Highlander for Skippy.

Rockin out, uninsured style......don't worry, we will deliver that huge wheelbarrow of cash tomorrow. Sadly, they insure by driver and not car here. And because I am of the male persuasion my insurance is twice as much as Amanda's. (About $3000/yr v. $1700/yr) So today might be the last day that I drive. Tomorrow I be riding shotgun (on the left).

(Sidenote) Driving in the U.K. is insane. It is much more difficult than I thought to override the years of Gran Turismo and Need For Speed that have formed the fabric of my being. They don't have hardly any stoplights here either. Just a bunch of reverse roundabouts. I know, INSANE. Thankfully, we did not have an accident. I did run a red light and run over a curb in the middle of an intersection. And that was all before I picked Amanda up from school. Other than that, all is well. All is well.

  1. wow, what a life. That is hilarious. I can so picture your face as you drove over that curb. Probably b/c it was surely the same as jacob's would have been. Keep posting!

  3. I was wondering . . . if you drive on the left instead of the right over there, are conservative politicians called "leftists" instead of "right-wingers"?
